A Guide to 10 Great Bangkok Buffets (5 Pricey & 5 Cheap)

The vast array of appetizers, soups, entrees and desserts which comprise Thai cuisine is perhaps more vast and varied than any other cultural menu on Earth. There are so many good things to eat that the Thais themselves typically eat in a more “family style” manner than we typically do in the west. They tend to order or serve multiple items which everyone then shares, rather than each individual getting their own entree. A good alternative to this is eating at a buffet, and Bangkok is loaded with good ones.

What are the best buffets to try during your stay in Bangkok? If you aren’t concerned with the price, you’ll be blown away by these buffets:

  • Colonnade at The Sukhothai
  • Last Recipe at Le Méridien
  • River Café & Terrace at The Peninsula
  • The Oasis All-Day Dining at The Hotel Nikko
  • Espresso at the InterContinental

If you are trying to maximize your baht, check out these incredible buffets:

  • Yok Talay
  • Ginger All-Day Dining at Holiday Inn
  • Kuroda
  • King Kong Yakiniku
  • MoMo Cafe at Marriott Executive Apartments

You’ll almost feel guilty paying so little… almost!

There are two ways to narrow the list: spare-no-expense buffets or on-the-cheap options. The list is divided this way because, really, there is a dichotomy in the Thai economy. Some things are marketed toward Thais, and these things tend to be very affordable by western standards. Others are marketed toward visitors, and their prices may seem perfectly reasonable to you because you’re used to paying such prices, but most Thais would think these prices are nuts. Food is definitely divided in this way, but the good news is there are outstanding eats everywhere, and at all prices, and this certainly applies to buffets.

Top 5 On-The-Cheap Bangkok Buffets

Yok Talay

This one is for the slightly more adventurous in nature, since it is a little off the beaten path for most tourists in Bangkok. If we choose Lumphini Park as an arbitrary starting point for your excursion to Yok Talay, we are talking about a 20 minute cab ride, depending on Bangkok’s infamous traffic, of course. For your intrepid foray deeper into Bangkok, you shall be justly rewarded. Yok Talay is a locals’ favorite fresh grilled seafood buffet. The quality is very, very good and the owners point out that they are ranked as the #1 buffet on many Thai websites, with over 600 reviews. Of course, you always have to laugh at Google translator’s attempts at converting Thai into English, too, such as with this important statement from the owners: “Miniature customers height 100-130cm half price.” The buffet allows for you to eat as much as you want of anything they serve, for two hours. Drinks are included, but alcohol is extra. They will also allow you to charge your cell battery at no charge.

Location

Yok Talay is located at 101/1 Soi Tha Kham, 9/1 Bang Khun Thian, Bangkok 10150.

Hours

Every day starting at 5pm

Prices

399 baht ($12 to $13) for 2 hrs, including drinks, but alcohol is extra.
Miniature customers height 100-130cm half price.

King Kong Yakiniku

A great restaurant chain and fun dining experience with an eye-opening array of options awaits you at any one of the many King Kong Yakiniku locations around Bangkok. You order your choice of the quality items from the menu, ranging from thinly-sliced beef, chicken, bacon, prawns, mussels, squid, and on and on and on. They bring the food to your table raw and fire up a grill that is right there in the middle of the table. Then, you and your company grill the food together as you eat. You have 2 hours in which to order, and if that time runs out before your food does, you can stay and keep eating until you are done. A word to the wise, though: try not to over-order. To discourage waste, they will bill you a la carte prices for any food left over at the end.
