Thana City Country Club

The History

In Thai, the word for “shark” is “chelam”, but when it comes to golf the world over, the word is “Norman”. This is no more the case anywhere than at Thana City Country Club, which is Bangkok’s only Greg Norman-designed course. Built in 1993 and heavily renovated in 2018, it has been a premier location for golf in Thailand for decades. It has also been the site of numerous major tournaments, including the 1993 Thailand Open and 1996 Johnnie Walker Super Tour.

The Course

Thana City Country Club’s course is a 7,008 yard, par 72 masterpiece. The lake, streams and bunkers are all strategically placed to provide you with a most enjoyable challenge. The club states that the average play time is under 4.5 hours.

The Facilities

If Thana City Country Club were just a great course with a great club house, that would be fine, but the word “city” is in the name for a reason. They have a 194-room hotel, the Eastin Thana City Golf Resort Bangkok, 3 restaurants, a sport club, and event and banquet spaces.

Thana City Sports Club offers a lap, a leisure and a children’s swimming pool, a world-class gym, a fitness center with more than 20 weekly classes, tennis, badminton, squash, a mini football pitch, a Tae Kwon Do school, a library and reading room, a Kids’ Club complete with day care services and activities for the youngsters, and a juice bar.

The driving range is 30 bays, complete with a chipping area and putting green.

The restaurants are Splash – international cuisine with an a la carte menu; Shark Bites – the club house restaurant with international cuisine and beverages; and Chef Man – a Chinese restaurant with traditional Cantonese fare, dim sum and a selection of premium teas. Once you arrive at Thana City Country club, there’s really very little reason to leave!

The banquet hall and meeting rooms are all perfectly well-equipped to host any function you have in mind, whether that be a small meeting to a wedding to a corporate event. There are numerous spaces and options from which you may choose.

Nikanti Golf Club

The History

This innovative course, owned and operated by the Sasomsub family, has been open since 2013 and expanded their facilities and clubhouse in 2016. In comparison with the other courses we are highlighting, Nikanti Golf Club proudly offers an entirely different experience.

The Course

The course was designed by Piraporn Namatra, who has had his hand in the design and development of over 30 courses in Thailand. One great feature of Nikanti Golf Club is that it is public. As unique as that is amongst Bangkok’s top courses, the design itself is ingenious. The 6,789 yard, par 72, 18-hole course is divided into 3 groups of 6 holes, so you can actually start your outing at any one of 3 locations. For that matter, you can pop in, play 6 or 12 holes, and leave, if that’s what your schedule allows or your desires mandate that day. In addition, each of the 3 sets of 6 holes includes two par 3s, two par 4s and two par 5s, so you will have a well-balanced challenge within each set.

The Facilities

For food and beverages, Nikanti Golf club boasts 3 options, restaurant Kan -which has a flexible room for events – offering fresh, seasonal gourmet Thai and “family favorites”, and also The Courtyard, which is a pre- and post-round lounge… with cocktails, FYI.

The Club House has a luxury boutique pro shop with a well-informed staff to assist you in selecting your merchandise. They also rent all the equipment you’ll need for your outing, which makes things super easy for tourists who aren’t traveling with a golf kit. The locker rooms are classy and modern, with showers, jacuzzis and beverages available. At different points on the course, there are also kiosks where you can relax, take a break, and have a snack.

Furthermore, Nikanti Golf Club is well-appointed for special events of all types. They have two function rooms that can be set up for whatever meetings you are planning, including galas and weddings. The scenery of the club is a perfect backdrop for any special occasion. Corporate events are very much welcome.

At no other destination in Asia can be found such a truly distinctive all-inclusive golf experience. From tee to green – as well as from chef’s kitchen to dining table and during exceptional private events – Nikanti Golf Club aces every pleasure.
